Wedding dresses: traditions and superstitions of different countries and cultures

Customs and superstitions at weddings can be fantastic! Especially when it comes to wedding dresses and different traditions in different countries.

1. In Scotland, for example, it is believed that if the bride decorates her wedding dress with elements of a fabric known as "tartan", it will bring happiness to the young family. Tartan is a Scottish plaid that has its special colours associated with family clans. This element can be, for example, a scarf.

2. In some African cultures, it is believed that a wedding dress should be bright and colourful to reflect joy and a happy day. The more colours, the better! As you can see, white wedding dresses are not popular in all nations and cultures.

3. In Japan, there is a tradition of wearing a kimono, known as a uchikake, to a wedding. This large, colourful dress with lots of embroideries, symbolizing happiness and prosperity. European models of dresses, especially boho wedding dresses, also often feature embroidery. It can be both monochrome and coloured.

4. Some cultures have beliefs about the details of a wedding gown. For example, in many countries, it is important for a wedding dress to have pockets: they symbolise wealth and prosperity in the future. By the way, wedding dresses with pockets are also available in the Bridal Delicious line (plus size bridal dresses) of our new Love Actually collection. Go to the section and choose the dress of your dreams!

5. In some European traditions, wedding wear must have a train to symbolise a long and happy life. In other cultures, it is believed that a long train brings good luck and happiness to the bride, as well as protects her from the evil eye or negative energy. Today, designers offer a variety of train variations — from short to long, lush or light - so that every bride can find the one that best expresses her style and personality.

Recently, a new trend for wedding dresses has also emerged in the world, related to environmental friendliness. Many brides choose wedding dresses made from eco-friendly materials or even decide not to buy a new outfit but rent it from a rental salon.

As you can see, the world of wedding traditions is rich and diverse, and each culture has its unique superstitions and beliefs about wedding dresses.
