Family-Run Business in the Fashion Industry
The tradition of family-run businesses in the fashion industry has proven successful for many renowned brands. It's enough to mention the long-standing success of several wealthy Italian dynasties, which, by the way, expertly capitalized on their family unity. Media outlets often exclaimed, "Oh, let them adopt me!" when referring to them.
Sisters Iryna and Lyudmila Kotapska, although quite different in character, have been inseparable since childhood. Apart from sisterhood, their common bond was a passion for the world of fashion and a shared desire to create a thriving business together. Thus, in 2002, the sisters founded a bridal fashion brand.
Iryna and Lyudmila were born and raised in the picturesque Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi, known for its architectural and creative richness. They traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States from an early age, and both pursued their studies at the world-renowned University of the Arts London. Their wealth of experiences, combined with talent, determination, and a touch of serendipity, crystallized their childhood fascination with the fashion industry into the almost unreal dream of establishing an international fashion brand.
Their goal extended beyond building a successful business; they aimed to infuse their brand with a Ukrainian identity reinterpreted in a modern context.
Global Reach and Success
Today, KOTAPSKA Bridal Couture collections are available in over 250 bridal salons worldwide. The brand has gained particular popularity in highly competitive markets such as Germany, France, Portugal, and Italy, even surpassing local leaders. KOTAPSKA Bridal Couture dresses grace weddings not only in European countries but also in America and Asia.
The brand has earned a reputation for embodying luxury and elegance, surpassing traditional players in various countries. Its collections of the past two years stand out as unique in the world of wedding brands.
The Era of Performance in Fashion
The fashion industry is entering an era of performance, where up to twenty percent of collections feature spectacular pieces designed to astonish and inspire. In the realm of bridal fashion, experimentation with forms, sizes, materials, colors, styles, and volumes is gaining momentum. It has become a platform for declaring the brand's artistic ambitions, where functionality takes a back seat to design, often even eclipsing it.
This performative aspect is evident in the latest collections of the European bridal brand KOTAPSKA Bridal Couture. For instance, the DOLCHE collection vividly embodies this spirit, much like the Italian sun in July. Most models in this line exude an impressionistic influence.
The LA VIE EST BELLE collection showcases a French style, featuring more petite and elegant models, with compositions reflecting various moods. Simultaneously, the collection reflects the layering of cultures and the significant influence of the East. After all, Paris, the capital of France, is a multicultural metropolis. In this collection, KOTAPSKA Bridal Couture resembles the essence of Paris itself.
Sensuality and Beauty
The sensuality of brides on their wedding day is closely tied to their status and wealth. Wedding attire is often associated with the sexual energy of the couple. For the groom choosing his bride, it symbolizes success, while for the bride, it represents the pinnacle of her beauty and the promise of a life of luxury. Hence, the brand's designers often employ hand embroidery, beads, and even gemstones, not only in their LUX line but also in their traditional and noble color palette. These dresses highlight the bride's facial beauty and create an unmistakably refined image for her on this unforgettable day.
The brand's creators are well aware of the characteristics of different decorative materials, including the allure of mother-of-pearl, which reflects light and serves as a natural concealer in shell decor on dresses. The pearls on the gown exude sexual symbolism, reminiscent of Freud's contemplation of sexual symbolism in clothing.
Sensitivity and Eroticism in Art and Fashion
Sensitivity, eroticism, and sensuality are all present in art and fashion design and are consistently transmitted through social media. Perhaps, a new sexual revolution is underway?
"All our collections are filled with associations, influencing how we perceive ourselves on this most important day of sensuality and the body," says Iryna Kotapska, designer and ideologist of the brand.
Our choice of a wedding dress, like jewelry, can also be charged with sensuality.
Tattooing is a multinational and intercontinental trend, often embraced by celebrities. It is interesting to observe how this trend adapts in Europe and influences fashion. In our search for new ideas for bridal collections, we also feel the influence of this trend. This autumn, we launched a new limited collection of "tattooed" wedding gloves. It became a sensation among celebrities and stylists. Miss Paris was the first to try them on. Now everyone is asking for them.
The Path Forward: Personalization
Moving forward, we are leaning towards personalization. Tattoos for the younger generation represent rebellion, while the mature audience sees them as an opportunity for multifaceted stylizations. Hence, our unique feature is embroidered amulets and vow words on wedding dresses. Sometimes, it's something very intimate, and it may only appear on the lining, visible only to the bride on her wedding night. Perhaps soon, the Kotapska sisters' brand will offer the possibility of individual "tattoos" on wedding dresses. Who knows…
Sometimes, clients of the brand say that our dresses make them want to touch themselves constantly due to their pliable forms, impeccable details, exquisite fabrics, and perfect seams.
"We truly pay maximum attention to details," says Lyudmila Kotapska, who oversees production quality at KOTAPSKA Bridal Couture. "Our dresses are the quintessence of sensuality, and on the most important day, they must be flawless. I understand this feeling. It's not just about the design of the dress, the silhouette, and the form; context significantly influences perception. So when a bride wants to see this day as perfect, we provide her with that perfection. She must be utterly confident with us because our dress is an integral part of her on this perfect day. It's a tremendous responsibility, and that's how we perceive it."
